THE CHALLENGE
How does technology influence a visitors museum experience?
As technology evolves and adapts to everyday life, museums have started to embrace digital tools to create a more enjoyable and interactive experience for their guests. The Bizarre Reality app serves as a digital ticket portal, an exhibition map with details and information about the featured pieces, and acts as a social media platform for guests to share their thoughts and opinions about Araki's works. By combining the educational content from the exhibition with a platform to share with one-another, this app encourages Araki's community of fans to come together in person and online.
Initial Wireframe - The initial wireframes included welcome screens, a home page, ticketing portal and wallet, calendar, a map of the exhibition, art catalogue, exhibition shop, profile management, Araki's career history, and information on all his main characters.
Over the 5 week timeline, I expanded the color palette and made sure to saturate the application with Araki's vivid imagery and the existing design system of shapes and lines. I added color-coded navigation as well as clean details that were already used in the print materials.
This app design continued to push my abilities to work with an existing art-style, aesthetic, and design system.
DELIVERABLE
The final app was a fully designed mobile companion app that complemented the Bizarre Reality: The Modernization of Manga exhibition while extending the established visual identity. Through the many rounds of revisions, this app evolved into a cohesive experience featuring exhibition information, Araki's history, the character information page, ticket portal, an interactive map, a digital gallery, an online exhibition shop, user profile and settings, and a fan focused community page.
Below are the final screens and the interactive Figma prototype, as well as an interactive link.
In the iPhone prototype, you can click on interactive elements (such as the hamburger menu) to navigate, or scroll through longer pages. Clicking outside the iPhone will show you interactive buttons that will highlight in blue. You can also use the arrow keys to move between frames. Press the restart button next to the arrow keys at the bottom to restart the prototype.
