Japan has a very vast history based on religious beliefs and folklore. In this yen redesign, I utilize the previous Japanese capitals, Nara and Kyoto, as a base location for the 1000 and 5000 yen.
These cities were chosen to be the capital due to their significance in both Buddhist and Shinto beliefs. The Nara deer are believed to be kami (gods) from the Kasuga Taisha Shrine, which is believed to be the first place the Takemikazuchi, a Shinto deity descended from. While the Kyoto bill features the Otowa Waterfall and Kiyomizudera, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Japan.
